Here are two occasions to enjoy this wine, and plenty more for you to create: a generous dinner with a slow-cooked dish, herb-roasted meat or a lentil-stuffed squash; or a relaxed late-evening glass with mature cheeses, toasted nuts or simply good conversation.
The vintage
2023 was a year full of contrasts: warm temperatures at the end of December and beginning of January raised concerns about early budding; a return to normalcy continued until February with relatively cool weather; a persistent drought accompanied by a strong Mistral wind, followed by regular rainfall until the end of June. Thanks to constant vigilance in the vineyards, the berries were healthy and well-ripened when harvest started, promising one of the finest vintages of the past decade.
Terroir
Clay and limestone terraces with round pebbles and blue marls. 200/250m alt.
Winemaking
The grapes are destemmed and vinified separately by variety. Maceration lasts for around three weeks, with regular punch-downs to gently extract colour, aromas and structure. Only the lots showing the greatest aromatic complexity are selected for the final blend. A proportion of the Syrah is aged for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, using new oak and one- to two-year-old barrels.
