"Based on 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 10% Carignan and aged 12 months in 30% oak barrels, the 2023 Vacqueyras La Ponche offers ripe red and black fruits, leafy herbs, pepper, and some Provençal, meaty, smoky nuances. It's ripe, medium to full-bodied, round, supple, and beautifully textured. It's another smoking good wine from this cooperative that has tons to love. Drink 2026-2037."

Presentation

Old vines, unique geological features, specific exposures & altitudes... In each appellation, the excellence of our expertise is showcased through the meticulous selection of distinctive parcels, careful winemaking and precise ageing for wines that are complex and full of character.

The vintage

2023 was a year full of contrasts: warm temperatures at the end of December and beginning of January raised concerns about early budding; a return to normalcy continued until February with relatively cool weather; a persistent drought accompanied by a strong Mistral wind, followed by regular rainfall until the end of June. Thanks to constant vigilance in the vineyards, the berries were healthy and well-ripened when harvest started, promising one of the finest vintages of the past decade.

Winemaking

Traditional vinification with long vating (25 days) and fermentation under controlled temperatures (28/30°C) with pumping over twice a day to develop the aromas. 30% of the wine is aged in oak barrels (1 & 2 wines) for 12 months.

Grape variety

  • Grenache – 65%
  • Syrah – 25%
  • Carignan – 10%
